Having Registration/Account Issues?

Hello all!

Been a while since the last post (have been keeping an eye on things though), thought I'd post this to assist any people having problems with setting up an account. The forums typically see a slight boost in viewership during the holiday season, so I figured now would be probably the best time to post this:

Every once and a while it seems that unregistered users encounter problems during the sign-up process, this may be due to any number of reasons, but it is typically IP/network related and somewhat difficult to diagnose remotely. (Edit: could also be a blacklisted email provider/address)

Should you encounter issues while trying to register, please feel free to reach out to me via e-mail directly or contact one of our moderators who can route your information to me. I can usually have you set up within a few hours from first contact. Same thing for persons who wish to change their username.

As Claude mentioned, I know I can via the backend, but I have yet to find out if it can be changed user side. Claude might be able to do it with his enhanced permissions as well.

I would like my name to change from little l to a capital L....So it would be correct....the correct spelling is DiLeon without changing my account. That is if it can be done? I would appreciate it. It is a big issue with computers in the past accepting the double capital letters in one word. If anyone wants to know it is French name, rare although.

Hi all. Lurker for a while. Became familiar with the format and read all the posts that interested me then registered. Now on site for 24 hours and posting way too much. Newbie. Sorry. Kid with his hand in the cookie jar! A couple of questions regarding the set-up please? Have not been able to discover the way to do things. Recognising the regular posters (persons ) and can see when they are on-line, however have not been able to find a way to contact them directly. Is there a chat room? When trying to see who is what and what they are up to, going to the membership window and they are not there, - yet are posting. Is this because they have selected to be anonymous or something.? When signing up, there is a box to give a brief description of what you are about. - profile. This does not appear to be visible to other members? I like to know who I am talking to and until I have been here a while, this is not going to happen. Last question. I discovered by default that there is an Off Topic forum - but not listed on the Forums page. Is this reserved for senior members? Just asking is all. Cheers, Arthur B-P Waiuku, NZ.

It's been a while since your post, and maybe you've discovered some of the answers to your questions on your own.

Nevertheless, I will answer the ones I can for future reference.

Unfortunately there is no chat room. The only way to contact someone directly would be to visit their profile. If you take a look right above the text box for leaving a message on the profile, you can see a "private message" button. If you click this, you will be able to send a message to a specific member that will not be visible to the public, and it will send a notification to that user's email that includes a preview of the message.

Members can choose to log in with "Invisible Mode", which will hide their online status. They can still post as normal, but will not show up in the list of online members or appear with the green dot at the bottom left of their post/profile that indicates activity. If you wish to change these settings, you can visit your profile, click on the "Edit Settings" button under your profile picture, and navigate to the "Account" tab. The checkbox for enabling this mode should be the third option from the top.

You are somewhat correct on the biography/description point. I'll look into this further, but some of the occupation and other information should appear to signed-in members. I believe most people add something about themselves in either the signature or the "status" text box which will allow you to post a note that will appear under your username when looking at your profile.

I checked the settings for the Off-Topic sub-board, and all visitors should be able to view and post. This should also be visible from the main/top page, under the "Members and Magazine" board, in the bottom of the second column of listed sub-boards.
