  • Cottonwood Bark Carvng

Is it possible to use the same method for making basswood easier to carve on bark carving: using a spray of 50/50 water and rubbing alcohol and spraying it on the wood to carve? I want to try to stop the cottonwood bark from chipping because it is so day.
Any help is appreciated and TIA.

I've had better luck soaking delicate areas with thin CA glue (thin Super glue). It dries quickly and carves easily.

Sometimes your better off going deeper and get rid of the loose layers. I always take off about 3/4"before carving anything. This is western bark. Much thicker than local mich. Bark. Local doesnt have same texture either.
