Susie Q..do you spray anything on yours before the antiquing? I have used just burnt umber oil mixed with odorless turp into a slurry, but you need to put a matt spray on top first. If it gets too dark, just wipe it off with the turp. First one I did I did not spraya nd the stain grabbed the wood and got too dark. I should have sprayed. I find the matt spray lacquer at Home Depot. I have tried to antique with watco wax and it just does not quite do enough I think. I also like the krylon matt that you get at the chain hobby stores...seems to be a finer mist, different nozzle I suppose. But, back to the question...do you spray or does the copol keep it from grabbing?
If you have some beautiful grain and rich natural color on a piece of wood and just want to bring that out what finish would you use? Tung oil? Danish oil? Poly? Wax? How would you do it?
acrylic paints, an oil based antiquing solution, then an acrylic matte finish.
I have used that procedure also, but would like to get a little different final look. I did one of Gerald Sears' cowboys, and I finished it different that the last 12 I did. I will post a photo tomorrow night and see what ya'll think of it. I am always open to suggestions.
Later..............Emmett
