Going to change it up again. Going to try some relief carving. Saw a flower that I thinking abut trying to do. Being raised in the part of the country where there weren't lots of flowers, I have no idea what this flower is. I asked the painting dept. about the colors to paint it. No idea either.

    So····can anyone help us out.

    Thanks in advance

That's called an Iris. Google Images has lots for you to look at.

Looks to be what's called a "Flag". Blue is pretty common color. Many images on the web.

          Hi Joe
Yourr flower looks a bit like our provincial flower called the \Lady Slipper" (Nova Scotia)

Hi Paul, yes I think an Iris for sure...I'd go for a blue-purple (just my thought) if you are going to paint it. Will be a nice relief carving project...please keep us updated. Robeson Valley gave you a good idea just do a Web Search titled Iris you'll see a lot of them.

Thanks for the info. getting the project drawn on the wood as we write, it's going to be about 3'x5' on a piece of 5"x7"x1" basswood. I've printed off some pictures for the paint dept

While the most common color around here is purple, they come in dozens of colors now. Many geographic areas have aggressive competitions for iris blooms. Good luck with the carving.

Can't help Joe, my wife says I have a "black" thumb. Won't let me anywhere near her garden, guess I'm plant ignorant.
