Does anyone know what "tag cloud" is all about. It appears in the right column on the forum. There are many entries in Latin. Who the heck speaks Latin nowadays? Just curious.

When you add a tag, it is kind of like a "handle" or a little note that the software can see. For example, if you make a post about sharpening, then you add a tag "sharpening" Then a person can search for threads that have that tag and will supposedly come up with a group of threads sharing that theme (or at least that tag). The tag cloud will be the accumulated tags of the site to give you some ready made searches. This will only be useful if the forum users have been adding tags to threads, around here, they don't.

The mods could delete the current set of tags and let us start over...that would be nice since it would relate to this forum. Otherwise, they may as well disable the feature.

Thanks for explaining "tag cloud." If it ain't broken, don't fix it until it is. I say just leave it be.

papasar: nobody speaks Latin = it's a "dead" language. Very useful as words and meanings and even spellings don't evolve like a modern living language.
Sort of like Morse Code, no changes.

First of all it would have been nice if someone made us aware of such a feature instead of assuming we are all computer geeks. Secondly, I have never even noticed this "tag cloud" thing, also, how does one go about adding a tag?

I have never given it much attention, but it looks like a tag can only be applied to the intial post. I'll run off and test it in a moment.

OK, if you start a new topic, under the box to enter text, there is a little window with Tags + in blue like a link. I haven't tried it, so after that you're on on your own.

Sounds like something that should be explained under the forum's "Beginners Guide To Using the Woodcarving Illustrated Message Board" section along with some of the other features. Even some of us "older" users could still benefit from some of those kinds of pointers, we don't do computers and apps as a second nature kind of thing.

Brian, thanks for the education., I studied Latin for 3 yrs and still read it pretty well. There is something called "conversational Latin" that has been spoken at various times over the centuries. I knew seminarians that took great pride in speaking Latin and they seemed to do it just because they could. I was referring to the entries that have long Latin paragraphs.

For some reason, the tag cloud got polluted with all sorts of spam, so we've just removed it. With all the categories we have on the site, the tag cloud really served no purpose anyway.
