Thanks Randy, and the same to you. Certainly a time for reflection and I have several ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary war...lots of stories there. Reading letters of no shoes, no coats, walking in snow, etc. and it sure was a ragtag group of dedicated patriots. Shame they can't see what they accomplished for the good and bad.

I had some family there too. It is sad to see how our education system just minimizes history these days. I fear the USA of the next 30 years is in for some big changes in its freedoms as we have known them and as those who made it possible dreamed for it. Franklin said, when ask what kind of government the continental congress had given the people that it was a Republic, if we could keep it. It appears it is soon to be lost though apathy. Sad!

Yeah, I'll spare the rant but believe you are right. Had an ancestor at Bunker Hill, one at Saratoga and Monmouth, and a few others. I was lucky enough to visit Saratoga several years ago and had a long talk with the park ranger who showed me exactly where the battle was and I was able to stand in the exact same spot. Humbling. Very humbling. They fought the British Grenadiers to about a standstill battle. He went on to Monmouth Court House and was involved with setting the courthouse on fire.

They marched from Saratoga to Monmouth in the fall. Tough lot they were.

Luckily our son has his master's degree in history with an emphasis on the colonial period. We have many conversations and he will keep it alive in his family...hopefully.

Obviously, I can gab about it all for a long while but have to put the brakes on now.

I am familiar with the Franklin quote...wise fellow.
