The assumption is that those who recover have produced antibodies that keep the virus in check and reduce the chances of passing live viruses to others. A serum antibody test is being developed, but it not widely available. Antibodies extracted from the blood of recovered coronavirus patients are being used to help seriously ill patients.

I'm in agreement regarding the news . . . I'm watching some local, and scanning headlines for major developments, but really have no desire to view the increasing partisanship (both sides) and jockeying for position. With so many sick and dying . . . such things are offensive

There are some 50 teams looking into maybe a dozen vaccine approaches.
Expect a good result (s) in 12-18 months.

In the mean time, there are some drug substances which may help in the short term, as opposed to long term immunity.

My D1 is in an Emergency Human Medicine team working on a better diagnosis when measuring fever.
They got their live Corona virus samples this morning. They could not abandon their tropical disease work to leap from the frying pan into the fire.
