They are really hills Joe. West Texas for the most part is hight plains. The red rock canyon pictures is Palo Duro Canyon,a smaller version of the Grand Canyon.
Actually the highest point in Texas is Guadalupe Mt. (8,749') in West Texas - part of the Guadalupe Mountains National Park. It's very close to the New Mexico border.

We stopped at Palo Duro Canyon on our way back from Estes Park Colorado in 2019. Well worth seeing.
