  • Wire art

I'm starting to get interested in wire art and sculpture as something else to try besides carving. I did this today of my kids. I got the idea from a much better version of a couple I saw on Pinterest. My soldering is rough and I don't think I can clean it up without it falling apart. The shadow looks good though,

Nice project even if not wood or carved. I have thought wire art would be fun to dabble in but think brazing would be the way Iā€™d go.

Well done. It is always fun the try new things. I dabbled in jewlery making for a while. Including doing some wire work. I just aways end up back at the carving bench.

Interesting, Anders, and nicely done! Looks like a fun new project with a lot of potential.

The nice thing about a hobby is that it doesn't have to be the "only" hobby we have. There are too many interesting, challenging, and fun things to do in life to restrict ourselves to only one. Some of mine are antique clock repair and restoration, genealogy, stained glass creations, and painting a bit with pastels. I was also a potter until arthritis in my hands put an end to that. We should always be open to something new!

The only thing I have done in metal is bronze statues which was an interesting experience, and copper and jewelry. Copper, I made rain chains for the gutters.

Lots of DYI information on the net and youtube... on this subject of working with various kinds of metals. You may want to look into people who make metal sculptures also for ideas. Or get a book or two if you want to do this a lot. I like your sculpture.

              Thanks everyone
Ed - I'll have to check out brazing. I'm not familiar with what it is.
              Arthur - I completely agree.
