Many of the small west coast communities here have road signs directing people to high ground.
You just jump in the car and go. Emergency Services will tell everybody when it's safe to go home.

Boy h Boy Brian, I lived in the Portland area for +40 years spent a bunch of time on the coast and always laughed at the " warning " signs along with the routes they mentioned, Highway 101 is so crowded 99 percent would get it in the cars on the roads just trying to get though the narrow streets and towns. And the routes were always a narrow one lane road.
For me go to a bar and stay drunk.

Getting up from any big city would nearly be a lost cause. In the little places, whoever is in the lead needs to know to drive like Hello to make a space for the followers.

Somewhere on the internet is an extended video of a tsunami flooding some part of Japan.
It just keeps coming and coming and coming. Third floor balconies that "looked safe"
eventually get flooded. The whole place is wrecked.

Some enterprising engineering student at the University of British Columbia did the math.
When the BIG EARTHQUAKE hits Vancouver, the downtown streets will be 3' deep in broken glass.
The best ambulance will be a D8 Caterpillar tractor.
