  • Moon shots

    Hi Guys
Went bush for a couple of days and it was a real clear night so stacked 2 of the 2 times converters onto my 400mm 5.6 canon lens, braced myself against the wall of the hut and got a couple of shots.

I got relatively good detail so am thinking of doing a Moon half round carving if I can get some good detail of the rest of it. Would be an interesting project I think.

I wouldn't bother to go up there,...... looks like they've cut all the basswood trees, so there'd be nothing to carve ...
    Great pictures Glen!.....thanks for posting.

It shouldn't be long before you'll be able to see some astronauts up there. I see where they are readying a moonshot!

Wow you got some great details. If your night sky is as good as ours...I am sure the night sky is a major wonder to sit and look at in the night. Especially places with no people, no lights....

One of my favorite viewing times was back around 1970. I was on the USS Durham (LKA-114) and we were making a straight shot trip from Long Beach, CA to Danang, Vietnam, to pick up a load of material the USMC wanted to keep and return to the states. No moon, only normal running lights on the ship. The stars were amazing. I had noticed Jupiter and it's moons - I could see 4 of them with my 7 power binoculars. I called the ship's doctor (he liked stuff like this) and he arrived a few minutes later, just wearing his skivies and carrying his black bag of medical supplies - I had forgotten to tell him it was no emergency. He looked at Jupiter through my binoculars and was amazed. Then I told him to go up to the signal bridge and use the 20 power "big eyes" binocular up there. He could see a couple more moons there and stayed there for a half hour or so. Signalmen were happy to let him use their "big eyes". Doc was happy I had awakened him, as he had never seen the sky so bright before...
