  • Is it COVID, the FLU, or a common cold?

Is it COVID, the FLU, or a common cold? When in the hospital last week I was subjected to room temperatures more fitting for a mortuary cooling suite. The room thermostat never reached higher than 70.1 degrees and for the most part stayed in the 60's. By the 4th day I had 8 hospital blankets and a sheet over me, was wearing socks and my own pajamas, and I was still cold and shivering. Upon release a week tomorrow it took me almost 12 hours at home to warm up and when I took my own temperature that Thursday evening it was 94.6 F. This is even low for me as I usually run around 97.6 F. So by Saturday I was starting to feel poorly and on Sunday I woke up with a full blown head cold. On Monday, just because we had them I did a COVID test and it turned up negative. Yesterday, I was emailed and asked to contact my doctor's office to confirm and pre-check in for a -Hospital stay visit. Upon answering the on-line questionnaire I was instructed to provide further information by email. I advised my physician of my status and the fact that I had a negative test but was told that before I could be seen in person tomorrow I would need to take a second test to insure that I was still negative . If not then it will require a telemedicine appointment which is going to be a trip because my computer has no camera and there are no capabilities on it for a face to face. Thank God for the Joe Biden home COVID test kits. I don't know what I'd have done or how I'd have got it done had I to leave the house feeling like I'd been run over by the entire Chinese Army to hunt down a COVID testing site. I can help but ponder as to when all this crap is going to end. It's getting very old!

We returned from Australia about week and a half ago. We visited our grandchildren and son (former marine) in Brisbane. We got covid. Test weak positive. No one in Australia got it.

We are on the mend. Yep. self-tests are great (I am an old army lab officer).

Flu is going to be bad. So, flu shot after this. Covid booster (at VA) when I can (I have both and one booster already).

So going to be a bad winter my friend.

    Stay well.

My wife and I both have had our flu shots. Got them in late August. We've also both had the original two COVID shots and the two follow-up boosters. We were supposed to go get the 5th shot last week but it got post-poned when I went in the hospital. Hopefully it will go on the schedule next week. Stay well!

I know two different people that had what appeared to be a bad cold but quote it was worst sick they had ever been with a cold, and they were sick for three weeks it starts as a bad cold that will not go away. They would feel a little better go out and do something and be back in bed the whole next week. Had to be put on virus medication.

RSV is really bad this year and worst they have a shortage of medicine for it. Children and seniors need to keep a heads-up on this one. When an adult get RSV infection, they typically have mild cold-like symptoms, but some may develop a lung infection or pneumonia.
RSV can sometimes also lead to worsening of serious conditions such as:
            • Asthma
            • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) – a chronic disease of the lungs that makes it hard to breathe
            • Congestive heart failure – when the heart can’t pump enough blood and oxygen through the body
Older adults who get very sick from RSV may need to be hospitalized. Some may even die. Older adults are at greater risk than young adults for serious complications from RSV because our immune systems weaken when we are older.
CDC put a warning out for children and older people. They are saying do the pandemic protocol to protect yourself meaning mask, wash hands, and whole works. Which makes me mad...again I had chronic lung issues living in the mainland so I am compromised to get the worst of this and covid. So I have to be double careful I do not get either one. They also have a new hybrid RVS which is mixed in with the cold.

Covid has a new variant out they are warning people that they may have a surge this winter it might be the worst one ??? of omicron. Cold, virus or covid time to protect yourself.

Hope you are feeling better, Eddie! All this stuff going around! When I was walking the dog last Thursday morning, the neighbor across the street came out at the same time, so we chatted while we walked around the block. She came home later that day, and was off Friday, so my wife went over and asked if she was OK. Covid! I came down with a cold on Saturday. A box and a half of Kleenex, and it's over. The neighbor was concerned that she had given me Covid, but we weren't within 6 feet of each other, and outdoors. Besides, it wouldn't have popped up 2 days later.

Yeah! I went to the doctor's yesterday. She said my lungs were clear and she didn't want to put me on antibiotics due to the heart med that I'm on. Just stay warm, rest and drink plenty of fluids. Last might my wife started coming down with it. I think we're having a "Foggy Mountain Breakdown!"

Hi Randy, 10 days to go are 10 long days. Side effects are really not good....but...they will be gone a few weeks after radiations and then you will be glad to have gone through!! Keep going, it is a 'heavy time' but worth it.

Randy... We never stopped wearing a mask when around others, always use hand sanitizer when out and about, and try as we can to maintain social distancing. My wife is taking immune suppressing RA drugs and keeping her free of colds, flu and Covid has been our highest priority. Stay well!

I thought I was doing ok, but... Went down to the VA hospital for some dental work on Thursday, and stopped at the vaccination area on the way out, just to ask if the VA was giving out a 5th dose of the vaccines. I already had the first two shots and both boosters, and have read that they lose their effectiveness after some months... The woman at the registration area say that if I wanted a 5th, they would give me one. I said fine...I'll head over to the clinic close to home something later in the week. She said I was here, go sit down and get my shot, so I did. Painless. Friday morning I woke up with a sore shoulder muscle and a 102° fever. Took some ibuprofen and went back to bed. Saturday morning, temp was 99.8° (normal for me when I get up is around 97.5° or so. Took another ibu. and sat in my office chair and nothing much for the day. Sunday, down to 99.2° when I got up. Did nothing much for the day (except fix food for my wife, as she's pretty much restricted to bed because of her lungs). Monday, temp was down to 98.8° when I got up - still a bit high, but getting better. Today, it was back to the normal 97.6° when I got up. First one of the 5 shots and left me feeling lousy for several days. I've been getting the Pfizer vaccine.

Claude..... All of the four COVID shots that I've received have been Pfizer. And I've had a strong response every time. Nothing like yours but at least a day and a half of really feeling crappy. My wife has been getting the Moderna and she's felt the same way. Last week my wife caught the same cold that I had and has been under the weather ever since. I would imagine that we'll wait until the first week of December or so before we get the next COVID booster. We'd really like a couple of days of feeling human before going another round. Glad to hear that you're feeling better.
