    Re: #@*&%$!!!!!!! Computers!!!!!

Thanks Kenny. I was thinking it would be better to get rid of Norton and then install the AVG.

HiHo is correct Bob in vunerablility but I don't think Norton will allow you to install another anti-virus program while it is running. However, You may be able to disable it first, then download AVG, but then, still not protected. I do believe Grisoft is a safe site. Have not heard of any problems with their download free software.
In this day and age, one never knows. Let us know if and how things turn out.

I would sure try to download the AVG first..........I did it the opposite way and immediately had a bunch of worms! Maybe they were already there, I don't know............?

          Re: #@*&%$!!!!!!! Computers!!!!!

I agree with both Kenny and Hi Ho. I'm pretty certain that all it would take is another bit of security software to make my computer cry Uncle--especially since the idiots at Norton have basically taken a great software program and turned into a not so beneficial program--I know because I've been using Norton since I've had a computer which is probably close to 15 years now. Norton spends an awful lot of time scanning for problems and doesn't find them, so what's the point. More then likely Norton has built in something so other security programs won't work so well resulting in your computer running slow.

Hi Ho, my guess is the worms were probably there already. Others have said they uncovered problems after installing new software. I expect the same with mine when I change the software. Hopefully, I'll be doing it this weekend when I have a bit of time. Thanks for all your help--I'm glad this site is available. It helps with more things than carving.

            Re: #@*&%$!!!!!!! Computers!!!!!

Amen..... Norton used to be the best. Now it's just an over blown system hog. I bought a new version than what I had a couple of years ago and my computer just refused to run once I had installed it. As soon as I took it off the computer, everything was back to normal. Avoid Norton like the plague until they fix it. I know many others who have had the same thing happen to them.

A lot od the known ISP now have "Anti-Virus software " on their equipment but I still run anti virus program on each one of the pcs and laptop plus use a firewall, spyware, popup blocker plus some others and have not had any problems. I highly recommend AVG and Ad- Aware also. You can schedukle the scans to run when you are least using the 'puter.
Yep Susieq and Bob, Norton use to be the best but over the years they have dumbied down their once great anti virus software.

The only thing I see wrong with the Grisoft free AVG is no support for it but they do update it on a daily bases.
