    Re: OTT lamp

Oldmaninthewoods & Hobo, I took the dang light back and got a refund, it wasn't worth a dang for me. You see I'm now gonna stay workin in my computer room where there is very little lite. I have my desk lamp of course and then my old standard swing arm halogen that works real fine for carving. I just had heard so much about those OTTs I had to try one, but I didn't like it at all. As far as hip goes I'm doing fine, I can take a few steps in the house without even using the cane so it's healing really well.

      Re: OTT lamp

      Cliff,
I was unwilling to pay for an OTT lamp, didn;t see the need so I went on EBAY and found a good used Dazor lamp, which is the old drafting fleurescent lights that would clamp to my table. It is a swing arm but it stays right where I put it (no cheap springs), I was able to pick one up for around $40 with shipping.
The one reason everyone raves about an OTT lamp is its use for seeing "true" colors which in our business is only important when painting. So I went to Home Depot and bought True color bulbs which run around $16.
Overall I like this setup as the lamp will dang near last forever (mine is quite old but operates like new), new ones cost over $200. The other thing important to me was to be able to swing the lamp and have it stay where I put it, this does that without exception. It also would have one advantage over the halogen, it doesn't get hot!! Just go ebay.com and search on Dazor. Hope this is of some help.

          Re: OTT lamp

Sorry the Ott didn't work out for you Cliff! I too have the Daylight brand of light, like the Ott only less expensive. Mine are the smaller desktop models that close, I really like them. I have one on my portable carving table and one I use for painting.

I like the light they give me and that they don't heat up at all. They don't have a magnifier, I do have a separate one that I can swing into place when needed. It's awkward for me, working under one of them, don't see how surgeons can do it! Deborah
