Model Boat pattern

Does anyone have a model boat pattern that a 15 year old could build. My son has expressed an interest in building a model boat out of wood and I would like to find a pattern that wouldn't be too hard and just discourage him.

Our boat builder guru Bob S (one of the moderators) should be able to assist you. If he doesn't see your posting, I suggest pm'ing him. He is a master at model boat building.

You may want to check out the scroll saw woodworking and crafts magazine/website (a sister magazine of woodcarving illustrated). You can find a link at the top the the woodcarving illustrated magazine home page.

There new issue is out and has an article for building a 3D sailboat model. I have not received my issue yet so have not seen the entire article and am not sure if it would be too involved for a 15 year old or not. From the pictures on the website it does not look too involved.

I have a set of plans for a 1920's style runabout that was posted in Weekend Woodworking back in 1996. I have a question in to Wood Magazine to see if these plans are still available or if I can copy and send them off.
