  • Anyone looking to relocate to North Carolina?

Many of you are aware from posts earlier this year, that I lost both of my parents very close together. We had the memorial last week for the two of them and now it's time to try to clear out their house of personal stuff and put it on the market. My husband and I are going up to their house in Brasstown, NC next weekend. My brother is meeting us there and we will be meeting with a real estate agent also.

The main reason that I mention this here on the forum, is that the house is 10 minutes from the John C. Campbell Folk School. It could even be fixed into a hostel for folks coming to the John Campbell and be an income property. If I had my way, I would be relocating there myself. I love the area and would really love being near the school. But my husband wants to relocate to Tenn later on. My brother lives out East in the Raleigh area and he won't be relocating to the Brasstown area either. So, the house will be in the market here in a few weeks..... if anyone is interested in knowing more, pm me and I will fill you in on details.

The house will come with two very friendly spirits, one a wood carver (mom), both very agreeable folks....LOL.

I always thought North Carolina would be a perfect place to live, if only I could talk the kids and their families into relocating!!!

I'm sure it will sell quickly though, sounds like a great location and the spirits are good people, that's always a plus! Deborah

Ack! Anthony....how on earth did you know about that all they way over where you live????? LOL.... They used to lower a real possum but animal rights folks got all up in arms and they had to go to using a stuffed one. They never hurt the live one when they were using it...honest. They let him go right afterward.

For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about it's the New Year's Eve Possum drop....a take off on the crystal ball drop of Times Square. It started out as a local joke but it got pretty famous around the country. It's a big deal around there now..... mom used to send me clippings from the news papers about it. We were never in the area on New Years Eve so I never got to go.

As for the house, it would be so nice to live close to the John Campbell school. If I could talk hubby into it, the place wouldn't be for sale. I think that the right person will come along.

Don't live too far from there myself, well I have a house in NC but work in SC.....so I'm not sure WHERE I live.

              Beautiful area.

Actually wished I could move back to the Raleigh area myself.....maybe one day.

Good luck with selling the house!

Yes, you must try to be close to where you work. It's a fact of life.
Thanks for the good luck wishes.

                    Awe Nancy,
I sure wish we were not so far from each other too. I think that we would be down right dangerous together though....LOL. If we could get Deborah there too, we could be the "Santa gang"....Charlotte? You in? Good grief, it would be awesome with the 4 of us.

Deborah, you bring the wine, I'll bring the bourbon.......and maybe some margarita mixes as well....LOL.

Buckcrazy, it is life in a small town there..... the possum drop is held at a little gas station/general store called Clay's Corner. If you turn west right there at the corner, you are at the John Campbell Folk school. I mean right there, you could throw a rock and hit it. Mom used to run down to Clay's Corner when she ran out of cigarrettes or Coca cola...... They actually never "dropped" the possum. They lowered him slowly just like the crystal ball in New York. I have never seen a walleye drop but my grandpa used to catch them and muskies and he would tack their heads up on the support beams in his barn in Linesville, Penn. They were some ugly fish, looked like a baracuda......

Up until my computer crashed, a while back, I had the Clays Corner web-site, bookmarked on it. Went to it from time to time, for a laugh. Everyone is right, it's beautiful up there. Good luck with the sell.
