  • Back carving soon I hope.

Last weekend while splitting wood with the wood splitter, I really pulled a "Stupid". When I split alone I usually put the second half of the split piece on the back side frame of the splitter while I finish the front half.

Well all was going well until in my haste, I reached over the returning ram to pick up the second piece and it slipped. Rather than wait like I should have I grabbed the piece again just as the ram was returning and it pinched my right forearm between it and the detent valve of the splitter.

That's 20 tons of pressure, well I dropped the wood and reached over with my left hand and pulled the valve forward before I broke my arm but the damage and brusing were done.

I'm looking at large black and blue marks just below the elbow and it has restricted my movement for several days. I tried carving some feathers yesterday but was only able to carve for about an hour before the arm started to get sore and I had to quit. Well we'll give it a go again today.

Lesson learned, my reaction time ain't what it used to be and I should be less in a hurry especially when I've reached the point in my life that I have all the time I need to get things done.

ouch. Hindsite is always 20 20 isnt it? I sure hope you heal up fast. Did you go to the doctor with this bruise? I heard they can be real dangerous too if not taken care of properly.

No doctor, My wife is an RN and she's been taking care of the treatment. Ice for the first 24 hours and heat after that.

Ouch! Sorry TW. Iwish for a speedy recovery for you. I'm sure having an RN in the house will help.

WOW! that is as scary as it gets. We have seen a lot of farm/ranching accidents over the years up here in the boondocks. That could have been a really bad wreck as I am sure you have had IMPRESSED upon you(sorry bout that) Thank God you are going to be OK and kiss the wife lot's for taking care of you too. It wouldn't be the same without you around here!
