Thanks I have carved a couple of baseballs, but find the cork is a little too dark to really show detail well. So I stay away from the cork baseballs and cork softballs.

Is there a particular brand that has a nice inside to carve?

Was wondering that myself. Are the insides made up of different material, depending upon brand.

I list the various brands I've carved, in the full article. I've probably carved more Worth than any other. I got my balls from a couple of friends who play softball, so brands are dependent on what they prefer to play with. Insides do vary, but not necessarily by brands. Colors vary, too.
GBC... I prefer the leather covers... don't the pitching machine balls have a harder cover?

When does the fall issue come out, or did I miss it?

OK, regarding the inside of the softball is there any place on the packaging that tells if it's polycore or not? I'd like to try one sometime never got excited about carving golf balls because of their small size. Softballs, well that another 'ball game'...pardon the pun...tee hee
