  • New Pyrography Magazine!!!

    Calling all Pyrographers!

I just received this letter from Mindy Kinsey, Associate Managing Editor for Fox Chapel Publishing.

For those of you who purchased a copy of the very first Pyrography Magazine, you now have a chance to give some input as to what you would like to see or learn about in the next magazine. You can also submit your own projects for review.

This new issue is going to be a “special issue”. Start brainstorming, we have been given a second chance to create a Pyrography Magazine of our very own!

Read Mindy’s letter and submit any notes, sketches, photos, projects, or recommendations by August 23 to Mindy’s email address listed below....

“Good news: We have just received permission to create a new issue of
the pyro magazine! We plan to pick up some of the basic front matter
from the first issue and fill the rest of the issue with all new
    projects.

I'm wondering if there is anything you would like to see in the new
issue: trends you've noticed, projects that have been popular, or
fellow artists whose work you admire. Of course I'd also love to see
any projects you may want to contribute. Please send me any notes,
sketches, photos, or recommendations by August 23. We'll present
everything to the publisher and let you know (we hope by the end of
August) what we'd like to include. Please note that all projects will
be due by the end of September.”

    Many thanks!
    Mindy

      Hey Danette
I'm with you! I am so looking forward to another great issue that focus on us pyrographers! In fact I hope that one day there will be a full, four issues a year, subscript magazine for Pyro.

        Hi Susan!
I feel the same way. It would be wonderful to have our very own Pyrography Magazine published four times a year. It will help promote our art all over the world! I can't wait to get it! Hugs, Danette

Especially when pyro is used in wood burning, carving, stencil cutting, gourd burning and cutting .... hint, hint, hint to FCP.

I've ordered mine. With Irish and Fox Chapel combing its bound to be a winner.

oh yet another senior moment, ok I'VE ALWAYS BEEN A BIT GAGA..
                  Above asks for suggestions;
I've yet to burn on a carving without messing up. My carvings are a bit of flat plane, that causes me to make a heap of measles , those black marks. How to sill burn and get rid of that would make my day.

                    Re: New Pyrography Magazine!!!

John, are you using a variable temperature burning unit or a one temp?

One temps are made to get very hot, their only setting. If this is what you are using try plugging it in and doing your burning strokes as the unit heats up. When it starts getting too hot, unplug it, let it cool down some, and then start the process over.

With a variable temp unit you can control the heat settings. You do not need anything close to red hot to clean up joint line, remove the extra fibers, or to smooth rough cut walls.

Walnut Hollow has a new variable temp tool based on the standard one temp ... its the old one temp with a regulator added to the cord. Its inexpensive, small in size and perfect for your carving kit. You might give it a try.
