Re: Dayton show
I had my camera with me,but never took any pictures because of some people not wanting their work photographed.I was standing near a booth where a man took a picture and it was OK and a woman also took a picture and got jumped onto by the man's wife. There were some outstanding carvings and carvers at the show.Fred Zavadil won Best of Show.Terry Brasher won second best of show.
Keep the chips flying,

Re: Dayton show
Groozier, I was at the show and took lots of pics. I asked everyone first if they would mind. Took no pics without permission. Everyone was very gracious about it, some even thanked me for asking first. This often lead to a nice conversation with the carver. I know the husband and wife you were referring to, she doesn't like photos taken. I was told of this by some friends beforehand. When I was looking at their tables, someone came and took a pic, and she left them know of her displeasure immediately. If they dislike it so much, maybe they should have a NO PICTURE sign on their tables.

Re: Dayton show
I always ask for permission first, and find many exhibitors thanks me for asking. There are a few exhibitors I know who don't want photos of their work, and for good reasons, so I just look and don't even ask any more. We need to remember that some of the professional carvers have a following of collectors who buy their unique carvings, such as Santa's, birds, etc. Those collectors are buying unique works of art that they don't want to see duplicated, which would devalue their collections. We need to respect their wishes. MikeMatthew

Re: Dayton show
mdallensr, I agree with everything you said. However, when you sell roughouts and have pics all over the internet, it is out there already for someone who wants to copy, and I DO NOT want to copy their stuff. But you are correct, some people will do that. Just sayn', it's out there already, ain't no secret.

Re: Dayton show
Yes, we need to respect those who do not want pictures of their work taken. I asked everyone, only got one BIG NO - probably the same person? ...... other carvers had no problem, one of them mentioned that she wants to be asked only to be able to get out of the picture because somebody once took picture of her eating, with food all over her face, and posted it on the internet, of course, she was not happy about it. The winners (big and small) had no problem to even pose with their carvings when asked. Congrats to all - outstanding work.
