I really like this forum, but.....

The picture feature is to me terrible. I know this forum is not really a picture hosting site, it is for communicating with other carvers. It is however very frustrating when looking at the pictures posted here. Only 5 on each post, then on to the next post 5 more and on and on it goes. Even in the gallery section, which is for pictures, it is the same routine.

I know this has been discussed before and nothing short of a total redesign can fix it. With that said, I am hoping someone who uses Picasa or some other type picture hosting site will posts their pictures from the carving shows that took place this past weekend at one of those sites.

Thanks for the feedback, Terry. As we move forward and update the site (and message boards), we'll keep that in mind.

I agree totally Terry.. It's really a plus when someone adds a link to their picture file were all photos can be viewed with ease.

The size of the picture display in the lightbox popup is too small. It's hard to get a good look at the images.

I guess I'm different, of the forum's that I use this one is the easiest to post pics. I like the thumbnail pics and the ability to open them or not. I agree that the gallery could work a little better though. I don't like having to post the pics on another website and then link to them to post somewhere.

You can post pictures directly by uploading them from your hard drive. you only have to post them on another site if you want them to appear imbedded in the post as opposed to a thumbnail.

Like Scott, It too like the little thumbnails as I just don't have the time to jump around the web opening new pages. With the thumbnails I can just take a quick look and then open the ones I want to see. Naturally, if the poster has more than just a few then they should, as mentioned....post them in a file somewhere else.

This forum is great. Like any software you have to deal with the positives and negatives. I had difficulity at one time.
Now I post 4 or 5 pictures in the thumbnails, then referr to my web site for the rest of the pictures. I think this works great. I am using Weebly, a free site, that allows many pictures and also allows you to enlarge them with a single click. I have had many compliments on the site and am very pleased with the ease and results. There are probably other sites just as good.
As to changing this site to be all inclusive, I am sure, Will make it a little harder to use, drive off some participants and hurt the general over all usage.

I think the forum is outstanding also. The only fault I find is when viewing pictures in the gallery I don't always know when I have left one members picture and suddenly find I am viewing some other member pictures. Nothing I can not easily adjust to

I like the present form of photos on this forum (thumbnails, etc.) Crowd photos or miscellaneous table displays from carving shows are not too useful. However, I find it difficult to see ALL of the photos posted in the Carver Galleries from a single member.

My vote is for the thumbnails! I get extremely frustrated when someone posts their pictures on Picasa or some other picture hosting site and it takes an hour and a day to open the darn page up. Generally I apologetically by-pass those posts. I'm a carver not an I.T. man. I enjoy the W.C.I. forum for the speed and efficiency that it provides in communicating with other carvers. My first priority is carving. Computers are a side line. I say keep the thumbnails and if someone wants to post their entire porfolio then let them post a link to it in their thread.

Terry, I'm not sure I follow your comments about the gallery. No doubt, you can only post five photos per message on the board, but you can post a whole folder of photos to a gallery album. I usually do a multiple file process on Photoshop, to resize the photos to upload size. Then I create a new album in the gallery, open my resize folder, select all, and upload the entire folder to the new gallery album. Resizing does cost some quality for sure, but we're really not trying to blow these snapshots up to 16 x 20's. Mike

One thing I'd like is a change in the reply feature. On some forums, you can reply on the original poster's post ..or if someone replies to that post and you want to comment on what that poster said, you have a reply link that goes directly under his post. A 'sub' post feature so to say. Hope I explained that o.k.
