For people who do not know, we are islands in the middle of the pacific, our temperature range between 92 and 65 degrees year around. We are in the middle of tropical storm and flash flooding for the last week. Freak lightning storms where unheard of when I moved here.....when it rains here it is not like the mainland, it rains so hard you can not see in front of you when driving. Places on the highway where there are water falls blocking the roads. Where I live we are having 3 inches of rain an hour or more. I live rainforest, mountain side, so we are secure....but the neighbors below are being evacuated by red cross. We have a major termite problem so people started building with steel .... which is a major conductor of lightning, people houses are getting fryed. I heard our church got bombed by lightning and knocked the steeple off. We got water spouts in the ocean, I woke up look out the window and there it was a white giant, giant tornadoes spinning out on the ocean. Then the hail fell, note;.... most people here have never seen ice fall from the sky,... so the kids are out there getting golf balls ice out in the yards, not knowing it is dangerous. Small tornadoes are throwing our bull frogs (a big problem) which are very poisonous in the air. yiks it is raining freaking frogs!!!! I got a roof leak... or a frog leak????.darn. darn. But what a site outside!!! I am fine, a little excitement is really good for old gal.... it is really hard to carve when so much is going on this week.

Re: Hawaii freak weather
Dang Di, sounds like it is time to move stateside. Weather is starting to be a problem everywhere. Sounds like even the sun is having problems.
Be safe, TomIf I took the time to fix all my mistakes, I wouldn,t have time to make new ones.

Re: Hawaii freak weather
Di sounds beautiful and dangerous your problem is where do you go? not far unless you have a boat. Freeky weather patterns all over the world I know in Canada this year we have had very little snow and here we are at the start of March and it has all melted. The robins are here and the trees are in bud. You stay safe high and dry just sit and watch and carve.

Re: Hawaii freak weather
Holy Cow Di! That picture is something else! I love storms-lighting and all that, but that is freaky! We don't even get hail that big here. We're supposed to get quite the storm here in a few days.
Stay as safe as you can my friend. You are in my prayers. My ETSY shop:

Re: Hawaii freak weather
My prayers go out to you! I once experienced a tornado, while driving down to an exposition in Gary, Ind. from Northbrook, Ill... That was the freakiest thing... The sky was a deep dark yellow orange, the wind whipping, and the rain... OMG the rain was just like you described it... You couldn't see in front of your face... When that wind and rain got so bad, every vehicle came to a stop... i curled up into the middle of the van, not knowing what to expect... I was so scared... after a short time period the wind and rain subsided.... when i looked out the van looking south eastward.... I saw my first ever tornado, off to the distance... might have been 5 miles.... Who knows... but it was a grayish funnel with a twist heading straight up into the sky.... Now i know why you stay away from flat areas.... Lightning, floods, tornadoes, wind storms!

Re: Hawaii freak weather
On the islands, ha, ha.....we have shelters, for a very small amount of our population, we are so not ready for any kind of natural destruction! ... I guess that one would go to a coconut tree and hang on. Unlike the mainland you can evacuate, we stay home....as they say on the radio and hang in there. I do have a tsunami bags (major survival bags) , which I can go up the mountain and watch my house go into the ocean if that happens, the volcano is very active lately. The water spouts are white, often twins or lots of other smaller tornado, they are something to see until they come inland.... . Like they said in the movie Twister... we have cows......well here in Hawaii we have wild chickens and frogs.. Explore! Dream! Discover!” aloha Di

Re: Hawaii freak weather
I live close to the ocean up here in Mass and yesterday I just watch the houses of 4 neighbors burn to the ground. The houses that were on Humarock beach were being whipped by the wind and just could not stop the flames from taking all 4. They will rebuild and no lives were lost. I wish that rain you had could have come through for them but not to be.So chin up and Di, tomorrows another day. fred k
