    Re: wtf

a lot of spammers will mine forums for addresses. Even if the msg originated from wci, it doesnt mean they sent it. This is done to avoid yr spam control, which it did. There is no remedy, if yr out in the world, that is, in the digital media, some of this goes with the territory. i wouldnt blame wci or your antivirus, its a fact of the modern day web

Claude is right! I would download and install the free version of malwarebytes (malwarebytes.org) and scan your computer.

    Re: wtf

I'm sorry you received that e-mail. We do our best to keep things like that from happening.

It could be any number of things. If you subscribe to a thread, and have set your account up to e-mail you when someone posts something to that thread, and a spammer posts to that thread, the forum will e-mail you about the new post.

If you have set your account to e-mail you when someone sends you a private message, and a spammer sends you a private message, the forum will e-mail you about the new message.

We're doing all we can to stop spam, but there are companies in India, Pakistan, and Indonesia that specialize in spamming forums. You can pay them $300, and they will post to 1,000 or 10,000 forums (live people who can circumvent the protections we have in place for spam bots)...

To prevent any contact from the forum, go into your UserCP, and click on "Edit Options."
In this screen, you'll be able to set it so you never subscribe to threads, you do not receive notifications via e-mail when you get a PM, etc.

    Best Regards,

    Re: wtf

It may not actually be from WCI. If you can, view the long headers on the message and see where it originated. You may also have a virus/trojan/whatever on your computer that is doing this...

    wtf

I signed up for the forum and indicated that WCI could send me info related to woodcarving. The first message from them looks to be a dating service. Now if I can figure out how to block all messages from WCI, I will remain a member of the forum.
