I would think that it would work, but, rather slowly. Teeth seemto be for dry, so you haave the problem of it clogging with the wet fibers. What the heck, give it a try and let us know how it works!

I use a cordless saw on Cypress Knees, works pretty good.

I use that kind of saw to cut middle size trees, coconut trees, and branches on hardwood trees, I like it better then a chainsaw, in fact I showed many neighbors how to use it, and they went out and bought one themselves. One neighbor liked it so much that she went and cut down half their trees, and bushes to the surprise of her husband, said I should never showed her how to use it because they are going to lose all their trees. One complaint about the the cordless, is that it will only cut a few trees.....before recharging. I have an electric....oh yea I,.... also use it to cut my logs in half.

That’s a reciprocating saw nick named “szall-zall” with a general purpose narrow demo blade we use them in construction every day. That style is favored by plumbers and electricians for cutting pvc pipe and roots in trenches. I would think it should work fine for what you want to do.

I move with the speed of a sloth. I like to use what we call a "bow saw." They vary in blade length from maybe 12" to 36". I have 3 of them, used both in the woods and in the shop. There are a couple of different tooth patterns. The kerf is quite fine. The fine tooth pattern is very convenient for chopping out large blocks of waste wood in western red cedar.
Mind you, there are days when I wish I didn't have to cope with the other end of the handle at the far end of the blade.
