For What It's Worth: I've retired after 18 years as an engineer at NASA Headquarters and 10 more of military service early on. I miss my work and the people I work with, both! First time I haven't had a job in 46 years...
We've moved to Ponchatoula, Louisiana. Our son, DIL, and grandchildren (6 and .6) live in New Orleans, so we've settled across the lake to be somewhat nearby, but not too close. Had the pleasure last week of attending our grandson's kindergarden graduation!
Some of you may have noticed that I haven't posted all that much and no carvings for the last 5 months - that's because in December, my wife and I got serious about retirement. Had to do a lot of work on our town home in Virginia before we could put it on the market; also had to get rid of a lot of accumulated "stuff", and put a lot of the rest in storage so the home didn't look cluttered.
Our new home closed on the 15th, but we had to wait until this past Sunday for the movers to arrive with our stuff. Then took two solid hard days of unpacking to find things - still have about 1/4 of the boxes yet to unpack. Some stuff still missing, but hopefully in the unopened boxes. Lived in hotels from April 16 through May 21 without wanting to do grievous bodily harm to each other!
Funny note: we arrived with no knives to open the packing boxes, except my carving knives! Sacrificed (temporarily) my rough out knife - took two days until I found my box-cutter! That poor knife is probably now too dull to cut warm butter, but it'll sharpen back up (as soon as I find my stones!)
Big news today (and the reason I'm writing this) is that I finally got ATT to tell me that I had to go buy a DSL modem; for three weeks now, they've been telling me that everything I needed was in the mail (of course, I couldn't have an address for them until the house purchase closed...) Still haven't gotten the stuff in the mail that I was recently told was a "welcome" package with some cables, which I already had a plethora of... Ah, well...I now have high-speed internet again for the computer, in addition to the iPhone.
Maybe in a week we'll have the rest of the boxes unpacked and I can build a work bench to put my tools on, assuming I can find them all
Then, I can resume carving.
