  • Memorial Day

We who have been in combat bear witness of those who gave their lives to defend our way of life. How do we honor that memory? How do we fulfill the dreams of the men and women who sacrificed those dreams that we may fulfill ours? In a rice patty outside a village in Vietnam my friend said he thought those men at Valley Forge die for the same dream he had “America “. A few hours later my friend die for that dream. Our diversities are great but I pray we can all agree to remember those men and women again this Memorial Day. And the dream that is America!

                Re: Memorial Day

Lest they not be forgotten; when I was a Scoutmaster and director of a regional scout camp,I asked all my scouts to find a name of a KIA and find all they could about him/her, then remember that name forever. Some even had bracelets made with that name on it. I still encourage everyone to do the same. Lest none be forgotten!

Thank you Randy for the reminder.

                      Re: Memorial Day

Beautiful words Randy! My pet peeve this Memorial Day has been the catch phrase "Have a Happy Memorial Day!" as thrown out by every newsbroadcaster when wishing their public pleasant picnics and on every sales flyer from every store hoping that the buying public will flock in to spend their hard earned cash. The true meaning of Memorial day is being loss in the commercialism of the democratic society that those soldiers gave their lives to defend. Memorial Day is a day to remember, and reflect on, and honor those who gave all. Hopefully, that message won't be totally lost, hopefully!

                            Re: Memorial Day

I thank God that our people still want to honor their warriors. A few years ago I had this older man come up to me in the Atlanta airport and offer to buy my meal I was in uniform. I told him no Sir I will buy your meal and your entire party. I am grateful that you work hard and pay your taxes that allows me to get the best training. You and our citizens have paid for my college degree and my wife and children live in great comfort while I am war fighting. I liked war fighting I liked going on missions I liked feeling special I liked the way we are held in regard. He didn’t allow me to pay so I donated the estimated amount to the Red Cross. Don’t thank me I had a great life I got to do some very cool things allow me to thank you that worked hard and paid your taxes.
