Greetings Paul,
I'm so happy for you....for the cooler temps, the walks in the woods and especially for the fall colors.....something we never have here in hot, humid Florida.....sigh
A big front is making it's way South through our state this afternoon and that will get rid of the humidity for a few days. But our heat hangs around until mid to late October. I've lived here since 1966 and have never gotten used to the climate.
I envy you. Enjoy.
I won't be happy till December Susie. Hope you and Mike are doing well!

So it is! Happy Equinox to you too.
Sunny 15C/60F & breeze. Pruned grape vines, picked apples, major load of rubbish to the dump.
THEN: log-bashing gear, shovel & bags for sand, rock busting kit for pyrite crystals & slate, camera, SatRad, tripod & Nikon 82mm scope to look at sheep & goats, shotgun & etc to spend the rest of this beautiful day back up on some logging roads. With any luck, maybe a ruffed grouse or two for supper. Prime grizzly bear habitat all the way.
My idea of a celebration.
Happy Equinox, Paul! My favorite time of year too!

2012 Dark Days Ahead
Lovely posting. I love the fall, but for me, it really starts after Labor Day. Somehow, the heat of summer lifts in the last week of August, and early September brings cool mornings and sunny afternoons. Slowly, almost so you don't notice, fall is upon us. I'm off to the Apple Festival in a nearby village today.
My favorite single day of the year is the winter solstice. The day of maximum darkness and signal of returning light. I have always paid attention to this day; but it became a focus of attention during my time in Alaska. You might say that it is the start of my New Year.
My next favorite, which ushers in my favorite season, is the autumnal equinox. Today!
The hills will soon be an artist's canvas. Fall Festivals in every little. settlement. Persimmons, my favorite fruit, are ripening. The smell of apple butter in-the-making flavors the house. Then best of all....ticks and chiggers are gone and walks in the woods, without the smell of insect repellant, allows enjoyment using all five senses.
So my Frien's ...........Happy Equinox
There is still a couple of months to carve outside here in the Ozarks and I am off to enjoy a full day of making chips on the front porch.
