At 11:23 a.m., radar and rain gauges indicated thunderstorms with intense rainfall of 2 to 4 inches per hour over the eastern half of Oahu Hawaii....The rain gauge at Waihee pump reported rainfall rates exceeding 4 inches per hour at 11:15 am.....and at my house...smile. These rainfall rates cause rapid rises and flash flooding of local streams and poor drainage areas. We were going to put a zip line out for the grandchildren today for Christmas gift....and my phone goes nuts. There is a warning about severe weather coming....and I rush home. Only to be stuck out in it...as my little Ford Escort is nothing for this rain, I am behind a big truck hoping he will wave the rain away from my car, I got a box of chocolates, which I am downing for that nerve calming effect.,... finally make it home and take a breath of thank goodness. I swear this is just as bad as being stuck out in severe snow storms....only you have to worry about drowning versus frozen to death. Only about ten pounds heavier. Anyway....for all of you stuck inside the house regardless of what is outside....smile. you can watch funny holiday you tube…..these are my favorites, for a good smile. We got maybe 16" snow with big south wind a few days ago. Then it warmed up to 35F and we got pouring rain. 3-4 days ahead, we get maybe 15F, no more. What an icy mess this is gonna be. My 4x4 Suburban can break trail with the best of them.

I'm indoors a lot by choice these days, doing the post-surgical care-giver thing.
I fit it in between some productive carving sessions. But all results look excellent.
She's well enough to bitsh about my house-keeping skills (or lack thereof.)

Stick to the high ground, Di. I've never been in more than 2"/hr = impressive.

Well, it was t-shirt weather here in Kansas today! Looks like the next several days are going to be the same. I wouldn't mind a day or two being shut in though.

I was snowed in for one day --- a wonderful day. I was prepared so missed nothing. I baked and baked and baked -- and napped with the cats.
I hope we get more snow.

Wow! dileon, that is an awwwwful lot of rainfall. I can see where it would cause
flooding. Thankfully, we don't ever get it anywhere that heavy here. We have about
5 or 6 inches of snow now but it is supposed to get a little above freezing by next
weekend with some rain possible.

Hopefully it will be over soon for you so you will be able to go outside again. And while you are at it, maybe you can eat a few extra chocolates for me, I love them too. LOL.

We seldom get 2 inches of rain in a month here...so far this year are at about 16 total, so rain of that volume is incomprehensible to me. No snow here right now, and temps in the 60's until Friday. I have a son and a brother traveling here this coming weekend, so I hope the weather in the East cooperates and snow or storms don't crash the nation wide air system (like last year). For those that have good weather, enjoy it. For those that have bad weather, enjoy it also...Merry Christmas to all.

We dont much measure rain in Buffalo NY- and I tend to measure snow by consecutive days of shoveling- three in a row this weekend with a break today, thank you.Cant afford to be stuck inside by such a small amount.

Snow and freezing rain for us this weekednd,topped off with another inch this morning. Still not enough to get us stuck inside for a day or two. Calling for warmer temps and rain by the weekend. I guess the beautiful snow will become a muddy mess. Outside of gathering the eggs and feeding the chickens and horse, no need to get out other than to go to work each day.

Last week it was way below zero with wind chills even lower and snow. Today the early morning temp is about 45 and it is still

That's a lot of rain.

I've been fed up with precipitation in general since the flooding we had here last spring. Tired of it. And it's been lake effect snow here lately. Sick of that too especially if we get too much snow this winter, we will end up with more flooding next spring. The strange thing is that I don't live in a flood zone and it is all sand here, so for most of the 17 years I've lived here, it's been mostly brown lawns and drought. But we've had 2 bizarre flooding episodes here in the past 4 years, all from ground water pushing up through soil. I'm ready for another drought and I don't care if all of my grass dies next summer.
