  • Sleep; or the lack thereof

Had a good carving show this weekend in Kitsap county, Washington.

Super people in that carving club.

It was the first opportunity to display our new line of power carving burs.
Everyone was quite surprised to see us go from no power tools to $10,000.00 in inventory overnight; it even surprised me!

Coming up on 24 hours without sleep; I am getting too old for this.

Well done "Sleepless in Seattle"......er.....Rick. Good to hear that you are expanding your inventory. I'll have to watch for your catalogue coming out! I'm always looking for new and different shapes in burrs. Congratulations.

        Rick,
What lines of burrs are you carrying?
Kitsap County is sure pretty country! We lived in Gig Harbor (technically Pierce County, next door) for 8 years before moving to Florida for 11, moving to Tennessee now. I planted so many trees on our 8 acres in Gig Harbor that I hope to get up there this summer and see how they look. That's how it goes, plant trees...when they start to produce sell and start over! This time (in Tennessee) I'm planting a vinyard, 60 plants so far! Plus trees of course! Wish I could plant some of those Washington blackberries here, but know I'd regret it in about 10 seconds when they over-ran the place!

I hope you get some rest and then get to work on the new catalog pages.

Well, got some rest but don't feel rested yet.

Strange, when I was a teenager in the Navy, I could go days without sleep; must be getting old.

Wade, when can we expect some vino?

              Rick,
I used to make some incredible wine out of those Washington Blackberries!
It'll take a couple years, but you're invited to the first "tasting"!

                Wade,
I look forward to the first tasting.

I made wine once; while on a hike with my dog, I discovered an abandoned apple orchard in the woods and picked several bushels of apples.

I found an old apple wine recipe that used oranges and limes to give the wine a real fruity flavor.

When it was ready (I thought) I bottled it and used "one-year" corks. They did not require a cork press, just hand pressing.

I bottled two cases of wine and then went to bed.
Later that night, I awoke to the sound of a gun battle in my kitchen.

The wine wasn't quite finished and there were dents in the ceiling and corks all over the kitchen floor.

The wine was very low in alcohol but big on flavor; more like a refreshing cooler than a serious wine.

I waited six months to try the first bottle, only to discover that my boys had been enjoying it since the first week. There were only a half dozen bottles left at the first tasting.

I have long since misplaced the recipe; that is the biggest disappointment, that was some wonderful vino.

Ah, " fruit of the vine, let me go home and start over". Kewell song! Kewell sweet fruity wine. No fine wines for me, just some good old Boone's Farm Wild Island or some good blackberry wine. Maybe some Yaga Sangrea, or some...................WOW after all that, I feel a little light headed.

My wife's uncle made some blackberry wine before I was born, and has kept it "processing" until he wanted to make some other wine last winter. He's given me two gallons of it. It's closer to brandy now than wine--wonderful stuff!

                      Bob,
You're a lucky man! Savour every sip!
                      Rick,
I had one batch blow its' corks, painted the room! Fortunately only half, about a dozen bottles, had blown, so I un-corked the rest, put it back in a 5 gallon jug and let it finish fermenting, then stabilized it.
It's ok, I think, to cry over spilt wine!
I've ordered a cherry tree that is hybridized just for making cherry wine! Can hardly wait to taste it...in about 2010 or 2012!

The tree arrives 3/27. I'll take good care of it!
