  • The perfect storm coming?

They are preparing the islands for two tropical cyclones... Isabelle class 3 Hurricane right now and Julio one day away....following the first cyclones tail. Because of the ocean like every hurricane.....they are super unpredictable. They are telling us we have to have seven days food and water at home, plus a full disaster kit. Unlike the mainland we can not leave the state for evacuation....so the word is prepare for the worst. Already,.. they are cleaning out the stores, Costco yesterday,... I heard was a nightmare from horror show. The first Hurricane will hit Friday, the second will hit Saturday night. Julio they are more worried about....the first one will down grade? but the second one will upgrade????

I follow the radar ....by NOAA and the ocean pacific hurricane center, as had to do that for the hospitals in a past job. I had extensive disaster training....so I am ready. The only worry is that I have is going up the mountain if I need to because of storm surge during the storm, I am up only 30 feet off sea level...that is not enough. We do have a few evacuation centers....but like Katrina,... I believe that they are more unsafe...then staying home....many are in a storm surge areas. Islands have an old history of storm surge being pushed up the valleys by the winds....and guess what that is where every ones homes are.

So it is make do at home. Right now I am cleaning out the meat in the freezer...it is jerky time...as we always loose electric in any big storm....that is the normal. I had to cut the trees around the house and power lines yesterday. It is time to rock and roll and get the house ready.

Hope these two cyclones burn out ....but history says they can do anything, it is just wait and see. Meanwhile while I am getting ready for the full blown anything.... worst issue is not me, it is the 80 percent or higher people that do nothing. If and when something happens,... we will have super high death rate due to stupidity and bad, bad planning.

Most often these two will burn out....but they can get worst....no one knows until it is over with. This is super weird situation....two cyclones are piggy back to back. Friend of mine just called,.. said his water, was the five cases of beer in the back of his truck.... so is life.

Here's hoping all goes well for you, Di. I'll stay here and shovel snow in the winter.

Took the neighbor lady to the store.....to get her seven day supply of food and water. There is zero water anywhere in the whole town....the gas stations are lined up major... also. The only thing I was happy about was I got my Mountain House freeze dried ice cream.

Hurricanes aren't fun but there is usually plenty of fresh carving wood after. Sharpen up and fuel up the chainsaw.

I am from Gulfport MS and I lived through the only cat 5 to hit the U.S. I was 5 years old. We lived in a shelter for nearly 200 days my Mother hated it but I was a kid and I thought it was fun. I had a very nice house on the beach in Long Beach MS in 2005 after that storm I was done with living close to the beach. We lost everything all my military history all my carving tools everything my wife had and both of my kids just gone. I did recover all my massive collection of HT tools but that's it. We lived in a FEMA trailer for a year while I put a house back together not ours as it was gone. I had people in my neighborhood die in that storm I can remember the way they marked the house if they found bodies in it. The smell left over was nothing I will ever forget our whole Gulf Coast had that smell from New Orleans to Mobile. My town had a 40+ tidal surge the water topped three story buildings. You couldn't get water or fuel or clean your cloths and no ice for at least two weeks. My neighbor was the gay doctor that told Dick Cheney to "go#$%^yourself on TV some of you may remember him. Get yourself safe and have a plan for after.

Well Di, if the electricity goes out you are going to be eating a lot of ice cream in a hurry.
