Re: Social Security raise
We can rest easy that the money that could help with SS issues is going for important government spending. Such as these idem listed the Waistbook for 2014.Just a few of the $25 billion listed in the book. And as a nation we keep voting those same people back into office to do it some more. Who is to blame???? What is the saying? trick me once shame one you, trick me twice shame on me.
Swedish massages for rabbits – $387,000
Paid vacations for bureaucrats gone wild – $20 million
Mountain lions on a treadmill – $856,000
Synchronized swimming for sea monkeys – $50,000
Pentagon to destroy $16 billion in unused ammunition -- $1 billion
Scientists hope monkey gambling unlocks secrets of free will –$171,000
Rich and famous rent out their luxury pads tax free – $10 million
Studying “hangry” spouses stabbing voodoo dolls – $331,000

Re: Social Security raise
and, if the Republican congress gets it's way, the increases will be smaller yet. They are proposing to base the increases on a "modified" consumer index - based only on goods that seniors are likely to buy.

All my money is going to future of, off the grid, ...homestead living .... I can not believe the system will support me in the future...so I have to do it myself like everyone else does in the world.

Re: Social Security raise
I read somewhere that as of 1-1-2015 all baby boomers will be at least 60 years old.

Re: Social Security raise
Although I understand what you are saying, I get Social Security also, another major employer in our area is closing up shop. There are many families right here that are losing their income. Some families have both parents working there and BOOM, it is gone. Many have decades working there. Sure, there is unemployment insurance for a while, but that is not going to be the same as a regular paycheck.
I have a lot of friends who are still working and they haven't gotten any raises at all in years, not just COLA but any raise at all.
Sure, I would like to get more of a COLA in my monthly check, but I can't really complain about what I've got.

Re: Social Security raise
I agree with what most of you are saying...........but just think how would you be getting along if you had nothing coming in like some of the less fortunate countries in this old world. Sure I would love to be getting more than is being provided, but with careful planning and living a modest lifestyle we are able to live comfortably and right now that's all that I need.
I was going to say ..." I buy all my luxuries with my carving money; but I guess that would be stretching it.......
