  • Collector Rat Nemesis 2 !

OK Paul, I deserve it! When you are done reading this and manage to get yourself off the floor and back at your computer ... well, again, I deserve it!

So ... It's raining here and flooding and way to wet to do any major cleaning this week as I would be sweeping mud instead of dirt I came over to the message board early this morning. There was a note that someone wanted ideas on how to carve noses so I think this is a good project for a wet week.

So ... I head down to the shop with camera in hand to start an oak leave spirit with a big nose. Now I want to cut it out on the band saw but I need to drill some 1/2" holes first. I find a scrap board, I find the bench dogs ... now all I need is a couple little plywood scraps to go under the dogs ..... AHHHHHH!

Go ahead, laugh as hard as you want to but guess what Idjit threw ALL of her scrap wood away.

I knew that old paint stir stick would come in handy one day. AH Shoot!

So ... I get the holes drilled and head to the band saw. Now, I moved the saw several times while cleaning so I was not surprised when it started making a weird friction noise (metal rubbing against metal).

So ... I check the blade guard and sure enough it's out of alignment, get that adjusted and think (Susan you know you and your brain thinking are a dangerous combination) that this would be a good time to clean the inside of the band saw.

So ... I take off the shield ... do a quick blast with the compressor and there stuck on the back wall of the inside of the saw .... A DRIED SNAKE SKIN !!!!!

This is a little too much for the morning. I have never killed a snake, in fact we enjoy those that live on our farmette. But they have their space and I have mine and my band saw is MY SPACE!

    ahhh!

      ROTFLMHO!!!!!

Susan, I am not laughing at you, laughing with you.

been there a few times myself.

Most of my paint stirers are scrapes of wood.

Had a pile of 1/4 " x 1 1/2 " oak pieces, well, a pickup load, and was triming out a counter top with some. One piece wasn't quite long enough so went back to get another longer piece.

Yep, I had cut most of the longer pieces in to paint stirers.

        LOL my friend!

I'm guessing that you won't want to hold our python if you come to visit?

It took me a while to get over my creepy-crawlies when it came to the snake, but he's so darn affectionate that I can't help but like him!

It helps that I'm the one to feed him his weekly mouse, so...I think he likes me <grin>

That said, I've got a few copper heads that hang out near my garden. With my wife's younger siblings coming over off and on, and our friends' children around...most snakes near my house meet their end relatively quickly...

I wouldn't mind holding your python ... (hmm! Somehow that doesn't read exactly as I meant it too ......)

(Try again , Susan) Bob, I'm not afraid of snakes or handling snakes. (That's better!)

But the more I think about that shed skin and knowing that I keep the band saw very clean inside, usually every two or three uses ... and that snake skin was not there a month ago ...

If I hadn't been cleaning this last month but had gone down to cut out some blank would I have ended up with snake guts all over my wood ... Yechk!

              Ick, ewwww and gross.

I hate snakes. All snakes, any shape and size snake.

I do however like those little lizard type things we have at the house. I actually just found a skelton of one inside the cover of one of our outside electrical outlets. There are wasps that have put a small nest in there and I think the lizard type thing was trying to hide in there and they stung him. I'm going to leave the skeleton there until my son comes to visit next month. It's actually kind of cool. I'll try to post a picture.

Years ago, to many to remember how many, We had some computer equipment housed in a shed out in the countryside in New Mexico. Yes, basicly just a shed.
Anyway, i we monitored that equipment thousands of miles away in Bartlesville OK at the headquaters IT department. There was a technician locally in New Mexico so we called him to go out and see what was wrong and to fix the problem. He called back about an hour later and said, there was no way in hell, that equipment was going to get fixed soon. I asked him why not and he said when he opened the door, there was 10 to 15 rattlers curled upin the shed and one was wraped around the equipment that had gone down. Bet he had to go home and change his cloths.

The company sent a crew of snake handlers/getters and got them out but it was a week before they did that. Then the Tech just flipped the switch back on.

We had problem with that equipment off and on till they decide to do something differently. Yep, same thing each time Rattlers.
Guess they were getting out of the heat.
