  • Ron just got back from the doctors

    Hi Gang,
Just heard from Ron he had just go back from the doctors and there is good news and bad. I have attached his email to me today so that you can read for yourself what is going on. Ron we are all behind you every step of the way and I know I speak for all here you are always in our prayer. We admire your spunk and determination and as always love to see your carvings. We will all try and be more diligent in explaining the ones we post so that you may get some perception of what they are like. Here is Ron's email
    Colin

Hi Colin I made it back from the doctor and thought I would bring you up to date. The bleeding from the retina has stopped so that is good news. As far as any sight returning there is no change all I can see is a small spec of light no movement or shadows. The glaucoma pressure is very high and having trouble controling it. The pressure should be around 10 but mine is now running about 68 so they want to continue to give the steriod injections in the eye every three days. This should take care of it because it has happened before. The eyesight if it returns will be very slow if at all he didn't hold out much hope but we will wait and see what happens. I am still carving everyday just takes longer. I still listen to the message board several times a day just harder to tell whats going on with some post but most I can figure out. Thanks for being there for me my friend it means a great deal to me.

Colin.....thanks for the updates on Ron. I think that the more all of us hear about Ron and the challenges he's facing the more we want to get behind him. What a guy!

As you seem to be in touch with him the most could you explain how we can structure our posts so that he can get the most out of them? I know that fuller descriptions of what we're up to is helpful but anything else that could add to this would be appreciated.

      Lynn,
Let me put this question to Ron. What do you think Ron what could we do that would help you better evaluate the carvings that are put on here to view. Now Ron let me tell you that if it is one of Lynn's carvings there is tremendous detail in everything he does. These carvings are a work of art. If you would like I will private email you in full detail if you would like on any carving that you have a problem visualizing.

Re: Ron just got back from the doctors

Well Colin and Ron, I don't have much faith in doctors anymore. However, I do have faith in our God and to him we pray for Ron healings. Our prays do get answered but sometimes not in the way we want.
Not much more to say except, yes Ron, we are behind you and pray for you every day.

I know about the pressure in the eyes and glaucoma as I have had it since 2003( that I know of) and had both eyes operated on and now, the pressure is down to 15 in both eyes with the aid of drops everyday for the rest of my life.
Hang in there Ron, You are an awsome inspiration my friend and hopefully, we can meet shortly.

Re: Ron just got back from the doctors

Hello everyone thanks for your prayers and concerns. The way Ash and Kenny have been discribing their post have been very good. Lynn I know how detailed your work is and it would take allot of time and space to tell me the whole story. The one thing I have still is a good imagination. So I think if you just tell me about the project this way I will understand it. Example This is a scene about 6'' tall and sits on a base 5''diameter. The peice is of a cowcamp cook bending over a pot on the fire stirring a pot of stew. His pants are in the position to show a plumbers crack. He also has a lit cigar that is dropping ashes in the pot. Etc That sounds like a easy way and also a good project. I don't want everyone to have to go to allot of extra work for this most of the time I can figure them out. Ash did a great job of discribing his last staff for me and it does help it's not much fun in the dark sometimes. Thats why I won't quit trying anyway. Again thank you everyone for your help. That reminds me of something that happened today. I went to Hobby Lobby to get some oil paints and the cashier just couldn't believe that I was buying paints. She actually had the nerve to ask what I was going to do with them. I did something I probably shouldn't have but I told her she would be surprised what I could do with these paints. I said you are probably looking at me like a monkey doing a math problem and have no way of comprehending it you would be lost if you were blind and just sit around and cry. And then walked out. Mom was with me and couldn't keep a straight face. She said that other people were laughing at the cashier also. Just hit a nerve with me I guess. But that was my afternoon I feel better now.

Way to go RON! People can be cruel somethimes when asking, Excuse me, "dumb questions" like that. That is Classic and well said my friend.
You should have said you paint by numbers and let your mother tell you the expression on the clerk's face.hehehe, Wish I was there to see the clerk's face when you told her. HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEH

                Best to you my friend.

Re: Ron just got back from the doctors

                  Ron,
I have to let you know something. I have been around blind people all my life. My great grandfather was blind as long as I could remember. From the time I was 3 years old he told me stories and taught me to see things with my mind from descriptions. One thing I do when I try to describe to you is to try and remember what he taught me. If I used the full lessons he taught me I would spend more time typing than carving.
Then later in life I had the great pleasure to work with a blind man, a WW2 vet. Had an 88 millimeter shell blew up in his face in France. When I met him he had been blind for about 30 years.
It was a great pleasure for me to work with this man. I think he decided I was his pet. So he also taught me a lot. He operated a punch press in a factory that I worked in. He took his family to Hawaii , when he came back , he described the trip to perfection. His wife was an expert at explaining detail. It helps in understanding what you need to build the picture. Although I may forget from time to time , should I forget to do so , please just let me know and I will do my best for you.

Re: Ron just got back from the doctors

Hi Ron, just wanted you to know that I'm praying for you also. Kenny described my feelings best, as I do believe in the power of prayer, as I have had the proof in my life. After reading your posts, I'm beginning to understand your determination and to say the least your skill. I have glaucoma in both eyes and am taking treatment, drops mostly. But the thought of loosing my eye sight isn't far from my mind. you are an inspiration, and you leave me with the understanding that there is never a reason to quit. God Bless you sir, and I will continue to pray for you. GOD IS GREAT.

Re: Ron just got back from the doctors

Thank's Colin for your post on Ron.. Ron I look at it in the same way that Ron and Hugh do. I have lived long enough to know that the Lord does go beyond what Doctors say.. I have seen true miracles happen and nothing can take that away form you once you see it , so you keep praying and having faith.. About Lynn's carvings they would be hard to describe as they are so full of life and action. When you see his canoe rising up out of the water on top of the moose it is pure action. You almost expect the scene to continue moving. The expression on the face of the Indian in the canoe is so expressive that you can feel his terror! This carving has lots of action. It makes you feel like the Elk is as startled as the Indian and the Guy that was thrown out, shows stunned excitement .. The water also shows a lot of movement and the colors are so vivid they add to the reality of the scene. All of that in the stilllness of a base that shows of the movement in the carving.. A very good contrast to the carving.. It just makes you feel like the carving will not stop but continue to the next scene in the river , which is everthing in the river..lol
You can imagine your own version of the story in the picture.. I hope I have not confused you but maybe you could get some of the scene that is there. I might have over discribed it or maybe I have a vivid imagination but that is the way I saw it and I didn't even see the real thing... Charlotte

Re: Ron just got back from the doctors

                        Hi Ron!

Hope you are doing well--or at least as well as to be expected--but if anything, better. I had to laugh at your experience with the clerk. I guess some people just don't think! Sheesh! Talk about being handicapped! But next time she asks you a dumb question, tell 'em the stuff is for Lou so he doesn't get bored while you're skeet shooting. That'll mess with her mind!

Anyway, I was reading your response and those of the others, and the thought occurred to me. You are helping us. I often look at a carving, and take for granted what I am seeing. But when I read someone's description of their carving, I learn something I hadn't noticed when I looked at the photo. So, you are making us really take notice of what we are looking at. Thank you, and I too, am keeping you and Lou in my prayers.

Re: Ron just got back from the doctors

I would like to have an experiment conducted by any volunteers willing. It would go something like this. If each volunteer would have someone put some type carving in a bag and give them a blindfold. Then take said volunteer out to a quiet place and blindfold them and leave
Then they could open the bag and sit and study the carving for as long as needed for them to figure it out. The idea is to let your mind and fingers do the seeing for you. I think that you will get just as much or more out of it than actually seeing it. Let me know what you think.

                          Ron

P.S. You boy's and girls in the great white north might want to do this inside. You might freeze to the ground.
