  • Cracked Skin Lotion

The other day I think I saw a thread on a hand lotion for cracked skin on the fingers. I've been looking for it but guess it expired. Working outside, clearing brush and burning it all, my fingers and hands are just about used up. If any one can remember that stuff please pass it on. Thanks!

Lynn, there's a whole buncha stuff.....I like Bert's Bees Hand salve, but there's also Bee Balm, Bag Balm, an udder balm you can get at a tack or farm supply (hey it really works), Corn Huskers Lotion for which you can substitute palin ordinary glycerine from the pharmacy, and on ad infinitum>

Bag Balm and Corona Lanolin -Rich ointment(wolfat)for Horses, cattles, animals and pets. My wife's family has used it for over fifty years on themselves and since I have been in the family, we have used it for 39 years on ourselves. Wrles wonders on cuts and the such. Ain't died from it's use. Only problem is it is greasey like the bag balm is.. It comes in a yellow tube or jar ,red cap. Good stuff.

The Vermont Bee Balm sounds like the stuff to use. A mixture of Bee's wax and I believe Olive oil. Looks to be more waxy . In a couple of days, the cracks and soreness are gone. So their advertisement says.

My wife was looking over my shoulder just a moment ago as I was reading these responses went upstairs and came back with this little tub of "Udder Cream". Wow!! Instant relief. What else has she got hidden up there? Maybe the true secret of carving success?

Excuse me a minute.....I'm going upstairs!!

          Thanks for all the info!

I always end up going back to cornhuskers...as it rubs in and not greasy....you just have to use it a couple times a day until your hands are back to normal and I guess at least once a day to keep them that way...problem is, when they are normal.....I don't think about putting stuff on 'em lol..........endless circle!Cowboy

We had orn huskers at work and we would pour a little of it in our hand and act like we would sneeze and then wipe it on the arms of a unsuspecting sole. Ya should have seen the looks. But then, That was in me yonger days. I know, I know, Not what you all wanted to hear. I will go back in to my own little world. I like it there better.Talking

Udder Cream, Bag Balm, the corona's wolfat, same stuff, just different colors. All have the basic ingredients.
The locall bee keeper uses the same ingredients in his wax soap as Vermont Bee Balm, but has added others to make a soap isn't soap.
Gald ya got some relief Lynn. Amazing what these little bride have hidden. I am finding Dark chokolate wraper here and there. And she knows I like that!
                best to y'll

Dave, I think you hit the nail onthe head! It's not so much what you use, it's if and when you use it. I know myself well enough to know that I'll notice my cracked hands on the way to work, or during dinner, or some other time when my healing stuff isn't handy, then forget about it until the next inconvenient time. The trick is having the stuff handy when you think about it. Reading this thread reminded me to put on the stuff for the day while I'm BS'ing on the phone. Mike

                    Re: Cracked Skin Lotion

Yesterday, I came in from outside and asked my wife if I could warm up my hands on her. Well, she said she would hold them for a while. Which she did. But she also said that my hands were like about 60 grit sandpaper. I asked for some lotion. She said too far gone for just plain lotion. I had noticed that when quilting , the cotton batting was snaging on the skin of my hands. She got a jar of vasoline and smeared it all over both my hands, and made me put some cotton gloves on. Well, I watched the Super bowl that way and went to bed that way, and this morning my hands were healed up. Smooth as a babys bottom. Who says an old dog can'y learn a new trick..Tom H

I have a little tub of "Udder Cream". It has the black and white cow patches on it. I put it on everytime I think of it and it helps my hands a lot. It's not greasy and has a nice aroma to it.

                        Lynn,

My hands have been cracking and split open this time of year since I was a boy. After 48 years of nothing working, my wife's friend came back from vacation in Isreal with a tube of Ahava Dermud for me. It is mud from the Dead Sea, and it is amazing. My hands are soft and not one crack in two years!!! Try it, you will love it. I bought a tube for my BIL for Xmas, and he loves it, too. He's a lineman for Com Ed here in Chicago, and out hanging on poles all day in this weather.

                        Good Luck,
                        Dan Heine

Tom H hit on the button.I have a severe problem with cracks along the tips of my fingers.Being an electrician and working out in the cold weather it is very painful.I have tried it all.I now coat my hands with vasoline and wear socks to bed and walaa. There is also a workmans co. called Daluth Trading co. that sells a product for cracked hands but never tried it.I also use Nexcare paint on skin crack care which looks like fingernail polish. It also works.Sorry for rambling on but this was right up my alley.
