    Re: Got Burl

you need to give a lot more information,

like length , type of wood , board ft. If your looking for pricing per board ft.

Outside of that what someone is willing to pay.

          Re: Got Burl

Ok well , lets see if I remember.

First establish volume . A cylinder 18 inch Dia 15 inches long yeilds 3817 cu inches
Second a board ft is 144 cu inches 12x12x1

          3817 / 144 = 26.5 board ft.

Cherry is selling in the rough , dried and cut at 4.16 cents a board ft. So I would say if your looking to sell it maybe 1.50 a board foot green uncut so about 40.00 if your lucky and it is a very figured burl. If it was dried with very minor cracks , cleaned and rough blocked maybe 60 - 80

Hope that makes sense to you.

            Re: Got Burl

The logger that I do business with sells his burls by the pound.

The species, figure in the burl and of course the market determine the price.

The price goes anywheres from a few dollars / lb. to whew! out of my price range.

Here's a link to what one seller gets for his cherry burls.

Good quality burl is highly prized by bowl turners...... Nothing prettier than a well turned bowl or vessel out of good burl, walnut or cherry....

                Re: Got Burl

I have a question that may seem strange to some... but an answer can shed a lot of light on trees in the forests around my home...
There's a very large White Oak close to the driveway that has a growth that resembles a wart on a person, about 36" in dia... I've heard such growths called "Crown Gaul" or "Gall"... can this growth be a "burl" on a tree? This particulare tree has thirteen such growths... all smaller than the large one, but there are more on other trees out there...
BURL?, OR NOT BURL?... THAT IS THE QUESTION....

                  Re: Got Burl

Sounds like you have burls on your oak trees.

Galls are caused by insects and range in size from 1/2" to 2" in diameter.

For more information do a google search on oak burls and oak galls, lots to read on the subject.
