Welcome Benny, you are off to a great start, and should have a lot of fun with this found hobby. There is no end to creativity and projects.
If I took the time to fix all my mistakes, I wouldn,t have time to make new ones.

Cheers guys = thanks for the welcome . there really is a wealth of info here , that is what I love about forums ( fora )
I was talking to my daughter who came to visit today and was discussing = I can have any shape limited only by my own talent and the grain of the wood
So what about a spiral with a tiny wooden ring around it so the ring falls down when you invert the piece
                Like a child's toy
something I might do for my granddaughter

Not to over emphasise the language difference but I assume chips = pieces of wood ?

I must admit I been carving so much lately the ends of my thumbs are losing their feeling maybe I should slow down

To be honest Merle , post treatment my counsellor advised adult colouring books , which I didn't fancy at all , watching Doug Outside , especially the five minute wizard , on a whim I gave the carving a go , now I have gifted at least 5 pieces and am thoroughly absorbed in this hobby
