No work to show! Just getting started.

I make custom backpacking/camping/bushcraft stoves but I'm a bit burnt out on it so I wanted to try something new. I've always been a whittler but nowhere to the degree of you guys. I stumbled upon Doug Linker on YouTube and he made it seem so fun I thought I would give it a go.

I'm a firm believer in having the right/best tool for any job. With that said, I've picked up some basic flexcut knives but have not been happy with their performance so I'd like to pickup a few helvies but that's proving to be fruitless.

With that said, I've picked up some basic flexcut knives but have not been happy with their performance so I'd like to pickup a few helvies but that's proving to be fruitless.

There's nothing better or worse than Flexcuts. They're preferred by as many as those who prefer Helvies. Have you stropped the Flexcuts? If not, get a good strop and some compound, and strop the blades. Basically, think of it as cleaning the microfibers out of microscopic teeth on the blades. In a pinch, you can use the cardboard off the back of a notebook pad with a bit of toothpaste. But the stropping compound and the piece of cardboard is great--it's my preferred way of tuning up the carving tools.
