I\\\'m fairly new to carving. Before my dad passed away he started chip carving and made a set of chip carving knives with a piece of steel he found. After I had the knives for a few years I decided to try carving with them. I didn\\\'t know at the time that the knives were designed for chip carving and I used them to carve some wood spirits in aspen. I started looking up info on carving and ordered a Flexcut Carvin\\\' Jack that worked a little better for the type of carving I was doing. About that time I ran across the Spring \\\'15 issue of Woodcarving Illustrated which opened my eyes to many different styles of carving. My interest in carving is definitely growing.
Through bushcrafting I had carved a couple of rough spoons for use while camping. Now I\\\'m getting into carving fancier spoons too. At first I was only using aspen to carve with. I recently started using birch and juniper.
Here are a few of the things I have carved so far. All of the wood spirits on the left were carved using the chip carving knives. The one on the right I did with the Carvin\\\' Jack. The rough spoon in that pic was carved with an Old Hickory knife and a Mora hook knife. All the other spoons were carved with the Carvin\\\' Jack.
