He is from a 100 yr. Old piece of Walnut and thought I would try using it for my Eagle . He was a tough Bird, didn't use any Hand Tools , mostly Power . I even used my Reciprocating Tool , that worked great . I wasn't going to do much Detailing but the Recip . Tool did good . The Eyes are a new type with small flecks of Yellow that the other Eyes that I use on my Daughters didn't . I was going to use Colored Pencil on his Beak but decided not to . Ha has 3 Coats of Poly U and that's all , not even Wax . After he was Dry I Buffed him with Scotch Pads , that knocked off the Shine and gave him a Warm look . Those Scotch Pads on a Rotary Tool works great , wish I knew it sooner . Oh , did I mention it is on a Diamond Willow Shaft . Ha,Ha. Maybe you can get an Idea of how much I took off from the original Piece. Nothing on but Poly U , didn't even Antique it . Being that it was made for me I tried different things and found that made it more enjoyable . I think I'm about all Eagled out for awhile , till I get another Request . Ha,Ha. Merle

Well done Merle, that is a nice looking eagle staff. I hope you get plenty of use from it.

Merle, that is a beauty! I'm jealous, wish I'd carved that! So glad you didn't color the beak, it's classic the way it is.

Beautiful stick, Merle. A very "stately" pose and the entire stick has to be a 10. Sure will be a nice stick to walk with, and tether it to you...so it isn't stolen or lost.

Merle, I believe he just had a meal and hasn't had time to clean his beak. If you stop making these splendid eagles topped canes & sticks, you will probably get a call of the US National history Bureau

Hi Merle, Always wonderful to hear about another first flight. It is a beauty. Gotta love Walnut as one of my favorite woods.
If I took the time to fix all my mistakes, I wouldn,t have time to make new ones.

Merle, your eagle canes look so realistic, I also like your wood, finish, and the completed cane. You are
"the Man" on canes. I have enjoyed your work

Hi Arthur , I agree with you about coloring the Beak , I feel it wouldn't add to it but maybe take away . I think you could Carve the Eagle , the Pattern is so well written and informative , try it you'll like it . Merle

Hi Randy , The Daughter bought that Medallion about 10 years ago , was waiting for the right time to use it and felt this is the time . Seems like you and I are the only Stick and Cane makers . I'm going to try something different , don't know what just yet but something will turn up . Thank for your Kind Words. Merle
