  • 'Might be a chance in the morning...

    I don't know if the rest of you have this problem, but things don't always go as I've planned when I start a carving. I had fully intended to carve another of Mike Shipley's characters (Frank), but as soon as I started on his head, I discovered a major blemish ( sap pocket ?) so rather than throw the whole thing away, I lopped off his head and carved one separately in the style that I've grown to like. So this fellow went from being a mountain man to a duck hunter living out here on the coast..... or at least that's my story.....
    He stands 8" high, and the base is 12" X 5-1/2". There's 6 decoys in the old tub.
    Hope you like him;
    Wayne

          When I went to art school, this one theme was played over and over in all classes. It is this.... you will make mistakes, sometimes the medium does not work, things crack, things break off, things will not be right, and it is your job not to quit but find plan B and plan C and plan D until you will get to where you are going. There are lots of things that need to go into the trash can, but not after you have tried to make it right. And that does not mean you failed but understand that you will learn and grow from each and every experience. Patience and willingness to understand it may not work is part of the process. But you did plan B and worked out great, no one would know that the head was attached because you made it with skill. An I feel that is awesome.

            There won't be a chance in the morning Soggy, cause it looks like he got em all. The dog sure looks happy. Love it, Tom
            If I took the time to fix all my mistakes, I wouldn,t have time to make new ones.
