This was my first bark carving. Fun to carve but tricky. It's a learning experience. Based on the Jim Redhawk video.

He looks great Terry, Looks like a nice solid piece of bark. Some is so layered that the nose just may fall off while you are workiing on it.
If I took the time to fix all my mistakes, I wouldn,t have time to make new ones.

Thanks guys (and gal)! I've had that bark for 5 years or more. LOL! It's neat to carve but definitely different than carving basswood. Easy to finish though. LOL!

I have to admit I had fun carving this one. Easy to carve in terms of cutting but tricky sometimes in terms of flakiness. You must have access to great quality bark out there in Big Sky Country.

There's quite a lot around the state but not that much locally. The bark around here is all too thin.

He's nicely carved out of a piece of good bark.
I send all my kudos and a few complimentary remarks.

Perhaps you'll carve another for the forum to view.

Thanks Rod and Dave! Appreciate your comments. My sister said the carving creeps her out because it lacks pupils. LOL!

Excellent carving, Terry! It sure doesn't look like your first one. I agree with your sister, though...the carving can really use some pupils. I suggest carefully drilling out two holes in the eyes to form the pupils. It will greatly improve the appearance of the carving. Just my two cents.
