  • Man with Newspaper

This guy is about 5 1/2 inches tall. He might be waiting for a bus or train and brought his paper along to read. The figure was from an old pattern but the face is from me. Hope you like him.

Nice carving, Joe, and nice facial detail also. Like the idea of a newspaper in hand and it is a nice prop.

Joe, that's really nice! You have the whole enchilada...nice, clean carving, good pose, excellent face, and the finishing touch is the newspaper...he tells a story all in himself!

Great work. The face is interesting and the carving is well done.

At my carving club, a few of us feel that caricatures are too often over the top. While we like small figures, we think the faces of figures should be a little more realistic (if offbeat), rather than ... well caricatures.

We call our vision for these carvings folk art, for lack of a better term. Your carving is a good example of the best of what we're trying to achieve. Keep 'em coming.

Fantastic!... as others have said, that face is perfect!.... and by the way, that resembles a neighbour I had as a kid.... Mr. Davis on his way to work at the bank each morning.
