  • "Beans"

"Beans" is a bust from a Harold Enlow rough out. He is about 8" tall, so there was a lot of room for details. It's been a while since I've carved much besides Santas. Thanks for looking!

Carving and paint are nicely done Mike. I like the expression you gave him allso.

The facial features are Great!,... but the way you've done the wrinkles in the clothing is what really sets this one apart .
Quite appropriate that you would post this today (saturday)... we have an old saying up here..." Saturday night is Bean night, and bath night"... lol..

No surprises here, another of your fine carvings, if it were 12" high I couldn't get all the detail that you have given "Beans" Curious, was the hat done separately?

I like it especially the expression, but somehow think his name could be whiskey instead of beans.

Beautiful carving, I reckon that's what I'll look like in a couple of years.

Interesting piece Mike, he has so much personality, great detail on his face and clothing. Tells a number of great stories. Well done.

Exceptionally well done, Mike. You may discover that characters like this give you greater choices for expression. Santas are always smiling, always bearded, always bundled up in winter clothes.

Great one Mike. I would not want to be down wind of old Beans.

That's a really good one Mike. Did you follow Enlow's figure or is yours different?

This is a wonderful, clean cut, great expression, wrinkles right on carving. It made me ask, why is he smiling like that, what'd he do and I came up with several ideas that made me smile. To me, this is when you have went beyond, when a carving is a story and nothing is said. Very well done--Earl

I never had a lot of success making the hat as a separate piece. Never could get the pieces to fit together to suit me. It seems easier to me to cut them out as one piece. But I probably can't get the brim as thin as some people do.

Harold's stuff comes with drawings, not photographs. Harold is quite an artist, and I based mine and the expression on his drawing. He didn't have a finished one sitting out or I would have taken some pictures of his also! I don't think there is any risk of mine being mistaken for his, as much as I try!
