  • You've heard of Harry Potter but have you heard of "Hairy Potter?"

My daughter-in-law is a librarian in the local school system. She's also an avid fan of the Harry Potter series. She asked me if I could carve her one of my bears in some sort of Harry Potter theme so that should could use it in her window display at school. This is what I came up with. He's carved from 2" x 2" x 6" basswood with an acrylic finish. Being only an artist in disguise I had to punt when it came to the books and wand. All are glued in place with Type II wood glue. I've nicknamed him "Hairy Potter!"

Thanks Merle. I'd love to be able to carve a bear like the Bishops or Mike Shipley but I've been doing my style for so long that it just feels comfortable doing it my way. Just for kicks and giggles I checked my Facebook photo album where I documented a large percentage of the bears that I've carved and came up with over 120 bears. And this doesn't include bears that I carved before getting a Facebook account or that I've given away and just not recorded. I guess that you could say that I've "bearly" scratched the surface!
