  • Dr. Bear.....

After over twenty years with the same gastrologist I finally had to find a new one as the old one retired. I got me a lady "Doc" this time and she's pretty cool. It's quite a cultural shock when you get so old that your doctors are the same age as your kids. Anyway, I wanted to have a bear ready the next time that I see her and considering that I never know when I'll need to make an appointment I figured I get one finished a head of time! 2" x 2" x 6" basswood finished in acrylics. love it. Ever do a koala bear? My exmarine son married an Australian. Granddaughter would love a koala bear. I would love to carve her one.

Rob (Army Vet). ok, other son was in Navy. LOL.

Another nice one Eddy, and the only addition I can see is a mask hanging from the neck.

I really like Bears Eddy, Great job on this Doctor!!
I was going to this clinic a couple years ago and the gal at reception always had small animals on her desk. Then I decided Next time I go back I am taking a small carved elephant, dang she had gone to another clinic !! BUT I agree with you on the docs. some of mine one I almost asked if his mother knew he had left home yet?
Cheers to the Doctors and the assistance out there that don't get the hellos that are needed.

We used to have a WCI member from "OZ" , down around Melbourne. He used to call me a couple of times a year. His forte was carving comfort birds and crosses and donating them to the hospital that had taken care of his wife. Anyway, he asked me to carve him a "Blinky Bill." I looked for the longest time for a pattern that I could carve incorporating the koala with the Blinky Bill caricature. I finally had to come up with one myself. I think it turned out quite well considering my limited artistic abilities. Basically I just Google Blinky Bill and downloaded a coloring book page and a couple of reference pictures. The mask was definitely an option. On a previous bear I carved the mask on its face. Every one is a little bit different.

I wouldn't go as far to say that! I find that my thought patterns are slowing down. I know what I want to carve but it takes me longer figure out how to do it. Carving is definitely great cognitive therapy!

I hear you Chuck! Went to my coumadin check appointment this morning and the new nurse that they had hired three months ago had quit already. I didn't see the bear that I gave her so I assume she took it with her or the bear did a "walk-a-bout!"
