Couple little carvings

Carved these three a week or so ago. Still waiting on my painter to have some free time to help me finish them up. Got my burner in last week, so I gave it a trial run on the scarecrow and then dipped him in BLO. Hopefully I can get them painted next weekend.

Yes, I have, just did not do it here. This was my first ever use of a burner. I got a little sloppy on the collar so didn't want to try and freehand the face.

You've most likely already thought of this but when I carve a Groups pencil is my best friend. After I lay out the pattern to begin with I continuously replace lines and mark key points. Some people like to use marking pens but I find that with a soft pencil you can erase at will making do-overs that much easier, plus upon completion a little bit of dish detergent along with an old toothbrush easily removes whatever lines and smudges are left. And of course a good washing generally does not hurt the carving with a side benefit that and unwanted slice makers have a habit of disappearing with the swelling of the wood.
