  • this may be my best

This might be my best original carving, Basswood 2x2x6,
His head is tilted and turned slightly, the coat is flared, the toes are crossed and he is taking a step (almost an impossibility)

Herb You seemed to added some depth to your carvings . It did add to the carving. Just curious , where do you guys keep all you carvings? . . .JoeB

Re: this may be my best

Well done, Herb! One of the things I\'ve tried hardest to eradicate from my carvings is keeping everything straight, in-line, squared off, etc. After a long long time of engineering work where it usually must be that way, changing to parts not lined up, twisted, etc., has been difficult

I really like how you painted the eyes, the iris and pupil are so nicely defined and clear. How did you achieve that?

Re: this may be my best

JoePaul, i give them away pretty quickly and I have a benefit coming up soon and i will donate several carvings, i have a display case.
Steev. On this one I burned the pupil then painted the whole thing white then painted iris a light brown then outlined it with a dark brown or black pen then used a toothpick dipped in paint to put a little white dot on the iris.
Thanks everyone for the nice comments

Herb do you remember when we joined this group back in \'08 ? and all the long time members would tell us the \"secret\" was Practice......Practice ...Practice ! Well it looks as though you are proving them right.
Great job on your latest and I\'m looking forward to seeing what you come up with next.

That is a great looking fella! To me he seems to look like Don Knotts meets Sonny Crockett.
