854AE77A-C1C6-42BF-B96F-DD5F9D6F7EF5.jpeg I found an aspen log on the side of the road while fly fishing with my grandsons in Colorado. This is the third piece if gotten out of that log. Previously I carved a couple of fly fishermen. I’m planning two more fish and one more fly fisherman. Thanks for looking.

I know that fish. The dry fly was a #12 mosquito tied with moose mane hairs.
Brian,
Yes, making a frozen figure that provides a sense of action is the challenge of the sculptor.
Few things more exciting than an eager trout.
Deciding how close to put fly took longer than I thought it would. I wanted it close enough I could imagine the trout catching the fly yet far enough it wasn’t a certainty.

I hadn’t thought about carving aspen until I found that three foot log on the side of the road. I too enjoy carving it. I was more than a little surprised that with a little care you can work through the beautiful knots as well.
I’m wondering a large if it fits it ships box cost $20 to ship wonder what Hester’s would charge to make up some 12” X 12” X 5 1/2” blocks?Ed
