  • Sourwood spirit, take 2

Another attempt at a wood spirit in a sourwood stick. Still need to apply a finish coat or 2 and try to tone down the paint a tad.

You certainly have the technique down and now you can change and alter them as you wish, Jonathan. I find that to be a lot of fun.

Have you seen Vladimire's youtube video yet? Doug Linker also has a youtube video on wood spirits.

    Good work.

Oh, you can use nail heads or other objects to make eyes and it is a lot easier. FYI

A suggestion to try--------Take the face you just carved and get a dark stain, wipe it on the hair and beard area, then wip it of right away, might have to do it a couple of times, just my 2¢

Thank you all. I decided to follow joepaulbutler’s advice and add a little wood stain. I built it up over a few layers, and then added a final wash over the whole piece. This is the final result.

That sure adds contrast to the face. Looks fine and better than the first post, Johnathan...in my opinion.

that looks just fine. you have the right idea of a 2 tone stain, one with a tad of color and the rest natural oil.
