  • Did you ever see Wood Grain this ?.

This was given to me from my Barber. He said it was Cherry Wood . It was cut from the side of a Log like a Limb . It's like a Jelly Roll , the Dark Part is Bark and is Warped from both Ends . I think a Limb was cut off and a Piece of Bark Ripped off and Hung their and started to grow again . Sure is different .
I'm going to use it for the Base for my Walnut Bass , it will be Mounted where the Holes are on the side , the Holes on the Bottom are from a Face Plate that I''l need to fill . Should be an interesting trip . Merle IMG_0005.JPG IMG_0006.JPG IMG_0007.JPG IMG_0001.JPG IMG_0002.JPG IMG_0003.JPG IMG_0009.JPG IMG_0008.JPG

Hi Claude, At first I thought it was 2 Limbs Twisting around each other till I started cleaning it . The Barber thought it looked like a Pair of Glasses . I didn't go all the way thru the Bark , I'm hoping it adds different colors as would be underwater . This was going to be mine but it's going to a Taxidermist for a Christmas Gift . It was to heavy to hold a Carve so I used a Face Plate to hold it . I removed a lot of Wood but it will still make a good Paperweight . Will be interesting on it's turn out . Thanks Claude . Merle

This is really interesting, are you going to try and carve anything into the sides or just stain?

Hi Joe , I'm going to start Shaping it today . I have an Idea on where to start removing Wood and who knows where it will go from there. . It needs some Character added. I'll probably Stain it Cherry Red . Thanks for showing your Interest . Merle

Never saw anything like it, Merle. Beautiful in its own way...

Hi 807, it is gona be Eye Catching because I didn't take all the Bark off and that gives the Piece Dark areas mixed with the White areas . A lot of Contrast in the Colors , then that Mixed with Cherry Stain should make for a nice Surprise , I hope .
I think I figured it out . A limb broke off and left a Slab of Bark on the Tree . The Edges started to Dry and laid on the Wound from the Broken Branch and then started to grow again . A Freak of Nature I'm sure but that's my Story and I'm sticking to it . Ha,Ha. Merle

Hi Glenn , I changed the Look a little by Piercing the Back part that is Black . I opened it up to lighten it some and break up the Wide Area . A little more Detailing on it today and then finish Detailing the Bass . Will definitely be different . Thanks Mate Merle
